Pump.fun

A token factory with a working revenue model and a distribution problem it profits from.

DOES NOT HOLD UP

Problem

Launching a token used to require a liquidity pool, a small amount of capital, and enough technical knowledge to not misconfigure it. That friction limited how fast tokens could be created.

Solution

Pump.fun removes the friction entirely: a bonding curve mints and prices the token from the first buy, and the pool migrates to a DEX once a threshold is crossed. Creation cost is near zero and takes under a minute.

Team & backers

Operated by an identifiable small team based in the UK. The company has faced litigation and has been the subject of regulatory attention in multiple jurisdictions. Revenue is public and substantial.

Tokenomics

The platform itself takes a fee on every trade and on migration. Individual tokens launched on it have no consistent tokenomics — supply, distribution and creator holdings vary per launch and are frequently concentrated in the creator wallet at launch.

Risk flags

  • Overwhelming majority of launched tokens go to zero
  • Creator concentration is the norm, not the exception
  • Livestream abuse incidents and moderation failures
  • Active regulatory and litigation exposure

Verdict & notes

This case file is about the platform, not about any token launched on it.

The mechanism works exactly as designed. That is the problem. Our own snapshot data on tokens originating here shows the standard pattern: liquidity peaks within hours of migration and decays sharply, while creator wallets frequently hold a share large enough to control the exit.

What we checked: on-chain fee revenue to the platform's known addresses, migration rates from bonding curve to DEX, and the liquidity decay curve on a sample of migrated tokens we track.

What we could not verify: the share of launches with coordinated creator/sniper wallets, since attribution across fresh wallets is inherently uncertain.

The negative verdict reflects outcomes for participants, not a claim that the platform is fraudulent. It is a functioning business whose revenue scales with churn. Read any token from this source with that incentive in mind.
